Since that first Christmas Break packing, PACKS has continued to provide food for all holiday breaks to the students in need at all Ritchie County schools. In 2013, PACKS submitted a grant to the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation for funds to provide bags of 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts and snacks per weekend to 100 Ritchie County Elementary School students. We were awarded $5000 and packed 1500 bags from January – March 2014.
We have continued to provide “break packs” and “weeklies” as we call them, to the students of Ritchie County. We do not know any of the recipients. The teachers of the schools let us know how many packs are needed, and God provides through the community. Bags are packed on Wednesday night and delivered to the schools on Thursday mornings, all through the power of volunteers. There is no paid staff for PACKS, all are volunteers.
Donations are the backbone of PACKS and come from individuals, businesses, local churches, and community organizations. Banks, CEOS, 4-H clubs, Women’s Clubs, Car Clubs, all raise funds to provide for the needs of the children in our county. From collecting food to a Polar Plunge, there are many activities that have raised funds for PACKS.
